Please don't let Donald Trump damage a valuable Scottish ecosystem. Visit fgreed.org for more information and to share your views. Despite the actions of the Scottish government, many people in Aberdeenshire are against this project-we value our environment more than Trump's money!

Hi fgreed. We have too many problems with our own country to worry about yours. You need to do something about the currency though. Looks like your queen is having a bad hair day. Laughing

Watch it, Tumbleweed, the Scots have you surrounded here. Shocked

What are you on about fgreed? I thought the decision was made that he would not be allowed to build the course here and would go to Ireland instead?

I've been surrounded before. Laughing

I haven't heard much about Trump and this situation lately but I don't think folks in the U.S. have much say in the matter.

You are an isolationist, Tumble? Wink

Donald Trump wants to build a huge golf complex on the east coast of Scotland, his mother is Scottish and he likes it here.

But he's finding out about the Scottish lack of respect for the trappings of wealth...has encountered a farmer who will not sell the land to him and has now been refused planning permission by the local Council, so he cannot build.

He can appeal the decision. I had heard he was going to change the venue rather than fight it, but that may have been said just to pressure the Council into caving in.

As you said I think that was probably just a media stunt to scare the council-it worked too! There is to be a public inquiry in June which will hopefully bring out the Trump Organization's lack of respect for Scottish planning procedures.

Its not that I am against foreign investment as such, I just take issue with Donald Trump's bullish attitude with regards to the development itself. A compromise could have been made which was better for the environment but unfortunately Trump believes his money will mean that he is exempt from any sort of regulation.

I just wondered what the take of all this on the other side of the Atlantic is? Many people over here believe it will send out the wrong message to future investors. I don't agree, I just think it will confirm our love of our national heritage and beautiful landscapes, and show that we will try our hardest to protect it.

Well you are wasting your time, many of the US people think the world ends at their coast, as Tumble has demonstrated...lol...

I think they'd be pretty remiss to refuse his investment. The country does need it as you know. But they are totally right to ensure he proceeds in accordance with planning regulations and Councils are notoriously sticking with those things when it comes to normal people, he should be no exception. The media are making such a meal of it, there is little chance now that he will get away with anything underhand.

It will be a huge boost to the east coast economy though. And from what I've seen of complexes like that in Mexico in such places, it will all be well done and confined to the area he owns.

What specific concerns do you have over conservation issues? What exactly caused his application to reject, do you know?
