Let's start a think tank on how to end the war in Iraq. How can we bring the troops home while maintaining stability in the area. All ideas are welcome. Who knows, we may find a solution that works for everyone.

I want to clarify one thing. ALL suggestions are accepted and important. I don't want this thread to become a slam fest for wonderful suggestions that are meant to possibly make a difference. Thanks.

The first thing we have to do is convince Congress it's time to leave. After that our destiny lies in the Iraqi governments ability to get their act together. Until they can take control of their country without our massive military buildup, nothing changes.

undo the mistakes of European colonizers and redivide Iraq into Kurdish, Sunni, and Shiite zones. the nation of Iraq was created by the British to consolidate natural resources without regard for ethnic divisions. This could not only end the war in Iraq but also civil wars in former African colonies that were created by putting different groups together that have no interest in a unified state.

How can Congress end the war in Iraq? They didn't even declare war. All they did was authorize the president to go to war. So wouldn't they have to authorize the president to stop the war? Which does not bind him to stop the war at all. How can the Congress give the president authority specifically given to Congress by the constitution without an amendment? And why the hell did they give up one of the most important powers Congress has?

Maybe we should bring back the draft, that way the kids will get into politics and we can get rid of the old people's hold on political power. Get rid of Socialist Security and put some younger faces in Congress and the white house.

Invading miserable Iraq and slaughtering common citizens. It is US that makes common Iraqi people become brave soldiers.

why do brave iraqi 'soldiers' cowardly bomb their own people? is it the brave soldiers who behead women? how many mass graves have been found that hold iraqis? fine brave soldiers who wear masks...i'm not for the war, but the atrocities done by the few against the many are quite memorable...

I can understand the so-called Iraqi "terrorist", because they have their own historical, cultural and religionary characteristics. The western always use their own criteria to measure others and always believe they are the best and eternally right.

US Army has advanced weapons and Iraqi warriors could not gain equal equipments. Then this two sides competition is absolutely unfair. I want to ask , if Iraqi soldiers do not sacrifice their own people, how can they win the war? It is US that force them to bomb their own people. You should know what is the root cause. I never heard the incidence about "Iraqi 'soldiers' bomb their own people" during Saddam era. After Iraqi soldiers killed some Iraqi people with tears, they tend to attribute this "achievement" to US Army. Because maybe these people will be slaughtered by US army due to so-called mis-bombing. Please read the news of the bombing event on 29 April beside Bagdad. And see those innocent Children and see how they die for American Democracy or oil.

If the guy is not stupid, he should know why America make such huge efforts on Iraq. Just for Oil and benefits. Announcing to fight for Iraqi freedom and democracy is kidding the people all over the world. All people on the earth are laughing at Bush's lie.

For those guys who help US army to insult Iraqi people and invade Iraqi, do you think how Iraqi soldiers should treat them? Of course use mass grave. If you are a traitor of America, I think you also will be sent to the electrical chair.

Before you blame Iraqi people for the activities of beheading women, think about school shooting affairs in America.

Drop your weapons and with nothing in your hand, I can guarantee Iraqi brave soldiers will not wear mask any more, not mention to fear US Army. Who is coward? those guys hidden in the tank. Dare you use the way of western ancient duel (One VS one with the same equipments) in Iraqi war field?

like i said baby---not my war----i was all for fuel alternatives back in the 80s when jimmy was in office-here it is near 30 years later, and , well, you know, here we all are....the thing is, ANY action taken is short-lived re: oil , as it IS a finite resource with many scientists believing we have reached the 'halfway' point of production---meaning, from here on out, we are milking a dying cow---there is a GLOBAL need to devise new technologies---not only for energy, but for food, and the most DEADLY when not available, water. We are many on a finite resource---many have envisioned a parched, arid desert where now there may be food belts and tropics-----if humanity, as a WHOLE, cannot figure out that unless we all work together, we will all die together, then surely this will be our fate. We have such promise, such noble places in our hearts, that it is hard to believe we have equal footing in brutality and cruelty. NO ONE has the patent on these traits. It is up to us, this generation, to ensure our grandchildren will have a shot at a life that is free of sickness, hatred, nationalism, and greed. You must know there are millions of americans who do not want this war, who do not want the bloodshed, who understand the ramifications of our actions, and do not agree with the actions of this government. The soldiers that are there were deployed , in the beginning, to shut down the harsh dictatorship of saddam hussien. If you remember, there was the deadly work of chemical ali, and the internal terror of uday and cusay. There was talk saddam was going to use such force and tactics across other borders. We went in nobly and got caught in a quagmire. The whole affair was unbelievably mismanaged, and the leadership was too committed to their own bullshit to back off. And now, the whole thing is just out of hand.
I do not understand the concept of murdering the helpless of your own population to further a cause---is that not rule by fear and intimidation? It is like cutting off your leg, to bleed to death, because someone slapped you. You change a mind by changing the heart---brutality only begets a heart that becomes watchful for your weakness.
Beheading women for daring to want to have a life that is not ruled and controlled by someone else is hardly the same as sociopathic murderous children. Those are isolated incidents decried by anyone not afflicted with mental illness, as opposed to state sanctioned 'punishments'.
i would hardly call those trying to build or help build a school, or electrical access, or roads, or homes or hospitals are guilty of being traitors to the iraqis.
We can trade these kinds of discussions all day long, but it would not be in the spirit of the thread. How can we stop the madness?
