It just gets more and more like bigotry.

A Hindu clergyman made history yesterday by offering the Senate's morning prayer, but only after police officers removed three protesters from the visitors' gallery.

Rajan Zed, director of interfaith relations at a Hindu temple in Reno, Nev., gave the prayer that opens each day's Senate session. As he stood at the lectern in a bright orange and burgundy robe, two women and a man began shouting "this is an abomination" and other complaints from the gallery.

Police officers arrested them and charged them disrupting Congress, a misdemeanor. The male protester said "we are Christians and patriots" before police led them away. Police identified the protesters as Ante Nedlko Pavkovic, Katherine Lynn Pavkovic and Christan Renee Sugar. Their home towns were not available.

For several days, the Mississippi-based American Family Association has urged its members to object to the prayer because Zed would be "seeking the invocation of a non-monotheistic god."

These are like the same folks didn't approve of being sworn into office by laying a hand on the Koran instead of the Bible.

I don't see what the big deal is. If some hindu guy prays to his gods so what? I don't believe in 'mass prayer'. As if bowing your head when another guy is praying aloud means you're praying too. Honestly, whenever I was in church and they did the 'bow your heads in prayer' thing I just said my own prayer and I hardly ever close my eyes and sometimes I don't bow my head. My belief is that God will hear me no matter if I'm praying with my eyes open or closed, head bowed or not, sitting, standing, or kneeling.

Anyways, get over it. America isn't just for one religion.

It's sad that the majority of people actually believe in some magical critter called god.

Why is prayer being used at for governmental business?

To some it's just as sad they don't.

Calling god a critter is being ignorant to others beliefs. If you don't believe in god fine, but he is no "critter"

as soon as someone says "i'm a christian, but..."---i duck and cover---more often than not, what comes out of their mouths is anything but christian...---the one word that christ reiterated over and over was love---paul was the one with the hangups, and the faith has been shat upon by power hungry greed mongers ...a pity really---its a great concept if adhered to....
