Since no one has brought up the last Iranian-US situation, I ill.

A recent "attack" on US warships has been dissected by everyone. This story is an interesting one.

A threatening radio message at the end of a video showing Iranian patrol boats swarming near U.S. warships in the Persian Gulf may have come from a prankster rather than from the Iranian vessels, the Navy Times newspaper has reported.

A video and audio of the Jan. 6 incident in the Strait of Hormuz featured a man in accented English saying "I am coming to you. ... You will explode after ... minutes."

Yes they are, but the hoax part is whether they had hostile intentions or were just playing the game they have been playing.

We would be stupid not to consider it a real threat. These weren't just fishing boats coming at us. I don't think hoax is the correct term. Provocation would be from my understanding of the situation. They definitely made a target of themselves.

The problem is the word hoax, is, I think, referring to the report more than the situation. Anyway, their boats are similar to the old PT boats, fast and a small target, they woiuld have had to get in closer for the armament on the ships to have been effective.

Interesting article on incidents like the boat thing.

Just how close might a military confrontation between Iran and the United States be?

Though a war of words eased a bit recently, President Bush's strong Iran warnings during his just completed Mideast trip, coupled with a ship standoff, are raising fears that a small incident could someday spiral — even by accident — into a real fight.

Iran's hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accused Bush Thursday of sending "a message of confrontation" during his trip to the region. It was a sharp response to Bush's tough rhetoric that Iran remains a serious threat.

Tensions slackened somewhat late last year when a U.S. intelligence report concluded Iran had halted a nuclear weapons program four years ago. But Bush went out of his way while visiting Gulf countries to reiterate that "all options" against Iran remain on the table.

Well, they are contemplating more sanctions on Iran so it will only get closer to a confrontation. IMO. Bush is forcing them into a corner.

Yep and with each thing we stumble closer and closer to a major confrontation.

Every time there seems to be a calm period Bush seems to poke them with a stick just to stir up the resentment from Iran.
