Part of the US gfrand plan for Iraq was to try and bring more ex-Baathists back into the government and security forces. This could present a proble,

Az-Zaman (international edition) featured on its front page the dossier of “revenge killings” in Iraq, a process that began since the American invasion, and caused the deaths of thousands of ex-Ba'this and individuals that were considered - by the assassins - to be supportive of the ex-regime.

Az-Zaman today carried the headline: “3000 Ba'this on the assassination list of militias in Southern Iraq.” The paper said that “a state of panic” has visited the south of the country, after “the militias affiliated with religious parties” began “liquidating 3000 ex-Ba'this ... accused of killing participants in the 1991 revolt against the previous regime.”

This seems to be another part of the civil war going on in Iraq. Until the Iraqi's come to the conclusion that all these revenge killings are ruining their country, I don't see much change in the current sectarian violence.

Whether we stay or go, the killings will remain. It is a matter of honor and to think that sonme guys in Baghdad pass a law that it will stop is as stupid as going to war in the first place. it will stop when both sides are satisfied that revenge and honor are satisfied.

Well, considering it's been going on thousands of years, I don't look for the violence to end anytime soon. Laughing
