Hollywood stars potest against independent Kosovo

Postby SerbianGuy on Tue Jan 29, 2008 10:18 pm

After George Clooney and Sharon Stone have announced protest against Kosovo independence, two more of famous Hollywood actors are joining them: Richard Gere and Sir Sean Connery. It seems that Hollywood celebrities understand International Law and UN resolutions better than those who get paid to understand... George Clooney stated that no matter how hard he tries to get the full picture about the truth of what is going on on Kosovo, he just can't reach the Serbian side of Kosovo story in media. He thinks that media information on Kosovo issue is served by Albanian lobbyists exclusively. Clooney also reveals the fact that Sharon Stone is very active lobbying for Serbian side. By now, she talked to numerous people in US who can potentially prevent violent secession of 15% of Serbian territory. Among the others, Sharon talked to Richard Gere who became immediately interested in Kosovo crisis. Richard Gere is very suspicious about why US insist on Kosovo independence and forming another Albanian country in Europe. He speculates there must be "something" on Kosovo that is the real background of US engagement there... Yes, you are right Mr. Gere! It is about economy, not democracy. But I'll write about it in the next post...Now, the famous 007 is also on Serbian side here. Sir Sean Connery simply can not understand why Kosovo should be precedent in political practice. "During the history, Scotland had more right to be independent, but was never allowed to. What is the difference between Kosovo and my home country?" - he asked himself. It is obvious that Serbian authorities are not strong enough to prevent breaking International Law and UN resolution. Do you think that Hollywood stars are? Please comment...

Hi SerbianGuy. Welcome.

This sounds like a made for Hollywood movie, including a cast of characters.

I get a bit uncomfortable with actors speaking on behalf of the U.S.

Hi everyone and thanks for letting me in with the welcome!

Today, 15% of Serbia is gone as "temporary" Kosovo institutions has declared independence. US announced to be amongst the first countries in the world to recognize this decision. It is pretty sure that this is against UN resolution 1244 as well as against the recent decision of UN Security Council. But, hey... who cares. Uncle Sam is above the International Law and UN!
As far as I am concerned, UN are dead. I am also sick and tired of the "American democracy" cr*p and US fight for human rights fairytale.
I don't understand who buys that any more. And I am sure Uncle Sam will sing one day: "I fought the law and the law won".
So, the question was where do I stand in all this?
I am pretty sure I gave an answer above. And I am pretty sure just why US want Kosovo independent.

- They found chemical weapons in Iraq? Or the oil?
- They found Usama in Afghanistan? Or opium?
- They fought for human rights on Kosovo? Or they fought for: http://scusemyfrench.blogspot.com/2008/ ... osovo.html

Do you have a problem with Kosovo being independent or with the US backing that independence? My wife is Albanian and she says that Kosovo has a lot of natural resources to exploit. I think that might explain the US involvement. However, you have to remember that NATO and the EU are also backing Kosovo, not just the US. NATO went into Kosovo in 1999 to end the war there, not the UN and not the US on its own accord. The UN was only put in as the administrative authority afterwards, although Kosovo was still technically part of Yugoslavia (what was left of it).

I believe the Kosovars are just trying to be free from Serbian rule because they feel that the Serbs are treating them unfairly. And I think that they have been treated unfairly by Slobodan, you know the guy who went up for war crimes. He repressed them by banning broadcasts of TV and radio in Albanian and also banned the only Albanian-language newspaper in Kosovo. He also fired 800 lecturers at the university in Pristina and expelled 22,500 of the 23,000 students there. As well he replaced the largely Albanian-run security forces with 40,000 Yugoslav police and military.

The Kosovars intially responded with passive resistance, but eventually they resorted to violence after years of repression. That's when the KLA formed and started attacking the police and military forces, as well as some civilians. For the most part though they stuck to military and police targets so they could hardly be considered terrorists as the Serbians claim. No other major power labelled them terrorists either.

I could care less what a bunch of actors say about a conflict in which they have no part. Maybe they should crack open a book, surf the net, or read a newspaper and they'll have a better idea of what happend in Kosovo, not only Kosovo but Yugoslavia as a whole. I challenge them to research the origins of Yugoslavia as a country and then tell me that Kosovo doesn't have any right to be independent.

The announcement has been made and now the stand off bwtween US and Russia

LONDON, Feb 18 (Reuters) - The fear of many states around the world that the precedent of Kosovo's independence could fuel separatist demands within their own borders is driving their opposition to its breakaway from Serbia.

The list of countries refusing to recognise Kosovo's sovereignty reads like a global A-Z of separatist strife. Spain, Azerbaijan, Sri Lanka and China all oppose Sunday's unilateral move by Kosovo to declare independence.

An even longer list of states in Europe and the Balkans are decidedly underwhelmed about acting as midwife to a new state in a region with a history of instability and conflict since the bloody breakup of the former Yugoslavia in 1991.

I second that!
Not only that, but how can the serbs still claim to have Kosovo after slaughtering them in 1999? Oh and they blame the dictators...I tell you that is no excuse...my brother-in-law is Kosovar and he says that people are afraid to pass the border to go to Beograd or wherever there is yugusolavian territory because the serbs would take them out if they knew they are kosovars. Clearly that means that serbs don't like kosovars, but what their land posseses, and the serbs know exactly what I'm alking about!

My dear friends from "normal" countries,
thanks for the participation in the thread I've started. And when I say "thanks" - I mean it.
First of all, I have to apologize for not responding to your comments at the time. I have a company to run... and a regular blah, blah...
First I owe the excusse to AlbOr.
Here in Belgrade, the Serbian capital, we have some of 80.000 Albanians. I have at least 3 of Albanian friends. So what? And, they 've never told me they have problems about living in Serbia. They actually hate if I invite them for traditional Serbian food (read: pork), but if I manage to find some good horse meat - they never reject the dinner. They also have no trouble visiting their families on Kosovo.
Please note - they never say they are Kosovars. They are Albanians. Kosovars are both Albanians and Serbs that live on Kosovo. Imagime the Americans from Colorado: Grand Canonians... LOL. Or Vermontians... silly.
You said: "people are afraid to pass the border to go to Beograd". Me, as a doctor... I see a plenty of Albanian mothers with their kids in "Tirsova" pediatric clinic these days. They get all the attention from Serbian docs as their kids are dying from leukemia. NATO bombing concequences, as our experts say. Uranium from NATO bombs. I rally hate to see those kids' eyes, dude. And what hurts me most of all, the donators of Kosovo independence (USA) name it as "colateral demage". And the name of NATO action over Serbia (including Kosovo) was "Merciful Angel". As certain lady - singer said: "Isn't it ironic?"
On the other side, I can promise you that the Serbs used violence to keep their country together and against Albanian secession. Like any country would do. Like any country must do in order to protect its Constitution. Otherwise, no country needs the army.

To Rupchuk:
1. You said: "However, you have to remember that NATO and the EU are also backing Kosovo, not just the US."
2. You also said: "My wife is Albanian and she says that Kosovo has a lot of natural resources to exploit. I think that might explain the US involvement."
3. "I believe the Kosovars are just trying to be free from Serbian rule because they feel that the Serbs are treating them unfairly. And I think that they have been treated unfairly by Slobodan, you know the guy who went up for war crimes."
4. No other major power labelled them terrorists either. (adressed to Kosovo Albanians)

My answers:

1. If you go to the concert, you do not actually listen to E-Street Band. You listen to Bruce Springsteen. He is the boss. And who is the boss in NATO, UN or EU?
If you do not get that US is above the Law... I'll have a hard time here explaining.
2. I think your wife is clever.
3. I'll have to agree with you on this one. I think it is really unfair to spare one population from paying the billls for the electricity, water, heating, taxes, serving the army, etc. (please read my message to Kosovo Albanians: http://scusemyfrench.blogspot.com/2008/ ... nians.html and TY). Serbs did all that in order to BEG them to stop secession. By the way, Slobodan Milosevic was brutally murdered in Hague prison. Like, he took certain kind of medication "on his own" will. No sh*t... You can not enter the chewing gums into the prison without the approval of the prison authorities. I think (and you can argue that) - he was Sadaam-izied.
4. 65% persons in Swiss prisons are Albanians e.g. (not all from Kosovo). And why? Heroine. So, Albanians do have money. It is such a shame that lobbying is legal manner in US administration. You get what you've paid for. US Albanian lobby over-paid Serbian lobby and made State Department vote on their behalf. Once again. Albanians do have money. They also control Europian drug traffic channels. You know, like from Afghanistan to Kosovo and then EU... But who cares?

General Notice:
Please do not check my spelling (English is not my mother language) and do not mix Yugoslavia with Serbia. Serbia rejected its souverity and entered Yugoslavia in 1918 where Kosovo was only one of the Serbian Kingdom districts. What a mistake...
Please note:
I did not mean to insult anyone or do any harm to the contributors of this thread or Forum or hurt their feelings.

Some worry and some do not. this article spells out a bit of the apprehension in the world.

LONDON, Feb 19 (Reuters) - Newly independent Kosovo might be a unique case, experts say, but it has nonetheless given fresh hope to separatist movements around the world and created a worrying precedent for nations with restive regions.

Effectively under international administration since NATO bombing forced the withdrawal of Serb forces in 1999, Kosovo follows the former Indonesian region of East Timor into independence -- and others are hoping to achieve similar status.

That worries countries from Spain to Sri Lanka, who are fighting their own insurgencies and independence movements and whose concern has led them to refuse to recognise Kosovo.

SerbianGuy, i'm not a doctor like you but i'm student who lives in kosovo and who has overlived the kosovo war. And i think that Kosovo and Serbia should be two separate countries and they should interact with each other. As a kosovan i think that the independence of Kosovo was the right step taken by our people and our government budies. Serbia has proved to the world that it cannot maintain Kosovo under its governance. I have overlived the war and i would say that it was extremely terrific. I was only 10 years old when the war started and have seen a lot of bad things during the war i will never forget those things. Those dead slaughtered bodies all over the ground, the burnt houses, the dangerous trap fields mined with mines etc. I remember when during the war here in Kosovo we went into a forest, fearing from the serbian army when i said to my mother ” Mom, are serbs going to tear our eyes alive or are they going to kill us and then slaughter us” , my mom said ” they kill us first then they slaughter us but we feel nothing then” but i knew the bad part from the beginning. And after all, Kosovo is a territory of kosovans not serbians as we are the descendants of Illyrians and Illyrians were widely spread around this terriotory where Kosovo is now, that’s why we deserve independence. In the other hand most of the people claim that albanians(kosovans) lack in knowledge and they are very poor. We are poor because we didn’t have the possibility to express our knowledge to the world because of the serbian regime. The serbian regime killed many of our teachers and our clever classmates just because they didn’t want Kosovans to advance in knowledge, so they kept us in control in every aspect of life and didn’t let us to progress. Simply, Kosovo and Serbia are two different countries now,and should look towards EU membership and interaction. And don't come here and talk crap things about hollywood stars... if they care about politics they should have studied politics not art.

And Kosovo is independent whethere you like or not, most of the EU together with US have recognized it so your words are just a waste of time, you better concentrate on your work and take care of your patients rather than talking about something that is inevitable.

First off, welcome to the board Eliza.

Secondly, is there a point to your post or did you just need to do a bit of yelling and screaming to start your day with? LOL!

Poor Albanians... You still don't get it.

You are under-educated as much as the Serbs are. Your incompetent little joke of "country" will never be independent. You have only changed the boss.

Do you really think Americans help you because they like you? Or because you suffered? Do you really believe in American fairy-tales about the world democracy and human rights?

I am pretty aware why US want Kosovo independent. In fact, they do not want it independent as much they want it OUT of Serbia. Wanna proof?

I feel sorry for you. And welcome to the real world. From now on, you will have to pay for the electricity, water, you will have to work, clean your streets, go to school, serve the army. You will have to do everything you have been spared from while being part of Serbia.

But there's more to it: you will have to do everything America tells you to. And Serbs don't. Not anymore.
