Can Bloomberg Win?

Postby CHUQ on Wed Jan 16, 2008 5:26 am

Yhis is an interesting perspective.

There is no doubt Hillary will win the nomination. The Clintons will use all the tricks typical of the establishment-supported candidates. There is little doubt that Romney will finally clinch the nomination at the Republican convention. Most likely Rudy Juliani will be the one that will hand over the nomination to Romney.

Whatever advantage Democrats have over the Republicans, it will be neutralized with moderate democrats boycotting the election with Hillary Clinton as the nominee from the Democratic party. Some moderate Republicans and Democrats will vote against Hillary no matter who the Republican candidate is.

I don't think he can. The most he could accomplish is hurting the Democrats.

If he runs as a third party candidate, the only thing he may accomplish is opening the process up for more substantial participation of third parties.

I doubt he will get enough support from Independents to make much of a splash in the pond.

He will only run if he has a chance of winning. Bloomberg is not one to accept defeat lightly.

We already have to many horses in the race. Adding Bloomburg to the mix serves no purpose other than he can get media attention.

Bloomberg will pull voters from both parties, but it will be ineresting to see which one is hurt the most.

He reminds me of Thompson early on in speculation about his intentions.

I read the link and disagree with most all of it.

I still can't picture Romney getting the nomination - and I don't think that Hillary is a lock either. Nevada is very important for Obama - hopefully he can pull it off.

Bloomberg, I would imagine would get around 4 - 5 % - like a Nader. I don't Bloomberg will run though - knowing he has no chance.

I full expect a liberal to run though - ONLY if Hillary gets the nomination - I think an anti-war candidate could get 10% of the popular vote.

The Green party, is already holding debates of their 7 candidates and will pick their nominee in July at their convention in Chicago.

And the Green Party has a strong anti-war plank in their platform.

I think an anti-war candidate could do well this time -

Only if its Hillary though. It would be a black&white choice: the other two were and continue to be all for the war I'm not.

Bloomberg sure sounds like a candidate, IMO.

WASHINGTON — Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg of New York City intensified his attacks on the political leadership here on Wednesday, pointing to what he called the government’s failure to fix immigration policy and other problems of immediate concern to the nation.

In a speech before a group of his fellow mayors, Mr. Bloomberg described Washington politicians as shortsighted and said their priorities often reflected crass political calculations rather than sound policy judgments.

He is good at that, but is it enough for a campaign?
