IMO, this is the prob with a lot of things.


We know what young people are doing more of: watching television, surfing the Web, listening to their iPods, talking on cellphones, and instant-messaging their friends. But a new report released today by the National Endowment for the Arts makes clear what they're doing a lot less of: reading.

The report - a 99-page compendium of more than 40 studies by universities, foundations, business groups, and government agencies since 2004 - paints a dire picture of plummeting levels of reading among young people over the past two decades. Among the findings:

I can't say I'm surprised. Parents are partially to blame for not pushing reading as an activity also. They are letting these new toys babysit their kids.

I agree and that is why, IMo, that children now have very little imagination.

Well, reading the rates that kids are becoming obese these days and getting to be overweight, someone needs to get their lazy ass of the couch.

I heard a report on the radio y/day that the readoing capability of an American teenager ranked 15th in the world. I have been looking for it on the web, but so far no luck. The US was ranked behind Poland.
