The future of science and mankind by Trinityroy 06-2008

So what are we beautiful beings up to?! Quite a humongous question don’t you think?
At present we are developing the most unbelievable techniques and know-how.
These techniques are both benefiting mankind as well as possible doomsday scenarios.
By the year 2040 we might finally have mastered nuclear fusion.
This will be the corner stone that will provide us with the means to create the next step in our technical and even our social evolution. Clean water and energy for all.
At present however we are not even able to create peace between most nations.
It seems that where politics are failing, science might make up for their lack of effort.
In the meantime we as a people have not shown ourselves to be worthy of the future.
We are lousy friends, partners and neighbors. We have show a lack of sense in responsibility towards each-other at almost every curve in history.
With our newly gained scientific evolutions we are becoming even more dangerous.
With the lack of corporate responsibility, and our laws not up to speed even more so!
Our international Tribunals are persecuting war criminals and not corporate criminals.
This will pose difficult questions for the future. It will be like in the movie, ‘Minority Report’, where it is clearly shown that it does matter who has access to the information.
For that matter any information. It is not just about DNA or personal information.
It has to do with any information and know how everywhere.
Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, Particle acceleration, Nuclear fusion etc.etc.
Even more than ever before it has become most important that we choose our leaders well, or we will all suffer the consequences.
In the States at the department of the US joint forces experimental facilities they are working on the creation of hunter killer Nanobots. These minute machines could become self-replicating and therefore part of a possible doomsday scenario. And do not forget they are made from the point of view that they should hunt down other organic life forms like our fellow human beings. War games still in this day and age. But now with the most advanced technologies and most dangerous outcomes to all!
At the same time we are developing these same technologies for medical purposes as well but this does not take away the dangers of these other experiments and developments.
The same is happening with particle acceleration, where scientists are so convinced of their right to experiment that they do not listen to other scientists. These doubters are stating that a minute created black-hole could expand exponentially and threaten the entire Earth. The argument for the Pro particle acceleration experimental scientists is that when we become afraid to experiment we should stop to do so entirely. And that we probably would still think our world to be flat if we hadn’t tried to be curious to our environment in the first place. This is a very easy argument to use in the age of bow and arrow, but in the 21st Century these statements have become a lot more dangerous.
Are the risks really weighed properly? Are the scientists as well as the captains of Industry and our Political leaders aware enough of the responsibilities these new technologies represent? I personally really have to vent my doubts here.
From my own point of view, I have expressed many times my doubts on issues of social and/or global interest and was never taken serious even though I found myself to have been right in many matters after many years. In most of those matters I had hoped to be proven wrong, but this was not so. I would like technological developments to become better monitored and even slowed down, while we pick up on the speed of our social development on a Global scale. Call me naïve, because money nowadays rules over culture, religion and good sense. But forgive me for asking. I am worried.
I would love too see the future bring proper nuclear fusion and the so called Star trek replicator, ( to be called; personal fabricator) and many more new advancements, but;
It is all about the hyve, the collective species as much as it is about the individual.
Let me end this little endeavor of mine stating that the best group of people in the world are the groups that are made up of individual thinkers not badly educated followers.

well said hon---- i too have thought many times we have not either socially or spiritually evolved in tune with our technology---- i fear that the money supporting the more dangerous research is coming from places that could give nary a whit for the common man----- i wish you luck and peace in your odyssey, and also hope that we are indeed merely the pessimists, and not the realists...
