Against Obama (But not for the reasons that you may think)

Postby freethinker1331 on Thu Jun 19, 2008 1:46 am

I will never vote for Barrack Obama. This decision has nothing to do with preachers, flagpins, weak associations and ties to "terrorists"," or any of the usual Fox News Propaganda. No I will never vote for Barrack Obama for one reason for one simple reason: I value individual freedom.

Call me old fasioned, but I take Thomas Jefferson's declaration that man has the right to life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness (namely the right to keep and attain property) very seriously. Anyone, be they politician or proletarian, rich or poor, Republican or Democrat, Black or White, anyone who tells me that I must surrender my inalianable rights for the "collective good" is naturally someone who I view with suspicion. In the interest of full disclosure it is for this very reason that I will never pull the lever for John McCain (or indeed most any modern politicain.)

I am curious if there is anyone else out there who feels the way I do. I wonder how many of my fellow Americans feel disatisfied with the current crop of egalitarian social engineers running for office? Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I'm on board with you. I'm probably going to vote for Ron Paul since he is the only candidate that I know of that is for more liberty and less spending. I doubt he'll win but I can't vote for Obama or McCain. My main issue is liberty and less government interference. And neither one has even made it an issue.

Free-thinker, do you mean Obama doesn't value individual freedom? What about Mcain?
In Australia the two major parties are labor & liberal, do you have this in America too? Please excuse my ignorance.

Have you ever filed your taxes? Have you ever voted?

I've filed taxes since 2003 but I didn't get to vote in 2004 because I requested my absentee ballot too late. Apparently for some states you have to request it weeks before the election. I'm voting this year though, mainly because I'll be in my home state and can just go to the polling place.
