Democrats' ads target 12 from GOP on war

Postby Tumbleweed on Wed Aug 15, 2007 1:04 am

It seems the Democrats are already turning up the heat on a few Republican seats they think they may have a shot at in 2008.

By Sean Lengell

Rep. Chris Van Hollen, Maryland Democrat and DCCC chairman, said "Republicans who continue to vote in lock step with the President Bush's failed Iraq policy will be held accountable."

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee this week began running radio advertisements to criticize 12 Republican House members for their "lock-step" support of President Bush's war policy.

The ads are running in the districts of Reps. Christopher Shays of Connecticut, Mark Steven Kirk of Illinois, Joe Knollenberg of Michigan, Jon Porter of Nevada, Mike Ferguson of New Jersey, Heather A. Wilson of New Mexico, James T. Walsh of New York, Deborah Pryce of Ohio, Phil English, Jim Gerlach and Tim Murphy of Pennsylvania, and Dave Reichert of Washington.

The DCCC considers the 12 Republican seats winnable for Democrats in the November 2008 elections. Many of the districts voted for Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts in 2004.

"These are swing districts, some of then lean Democratic, and they also have a very healthy number of independent voters," DCCC spokesman Doug Thornell said.

The ads, which began running Wednesday during morning and afternoon rush hours, will continue until the middle of next week

While I may think this is a good tact, I will still question the success it will have. If the people of the areas in questions feel that their reps have done a good job, this could make little difference. A good idea trying to replace enough people to get the override vote. But I will wait an see.

This article goes along with the subject of this thread.

This summer, Americans Against Escalation in Iraq – a broad coalition of advocacy organizations and political action committees from across the political spectrum – has launched the Iraq Summer campaign to help end the war by making it politically toxic for Republicans to support it.

Tom Matzzie, Washington Director of MoveOn.org, is "on loan" to run Americans Against Escalation in Iraq. The national campaign has a staff of 100 people, a multimillion dollar budget, and a tall order as it embarks on this effort to unify opposition to the Iraq War in advance of the Petraeus report in September.

The goal is to cut the remaining support for the president's Iraq policy out from underneath him. Give the Republicans a choice between helping to end the war or facing political extinction."

I'm not sure this will work. The remaining support Bush has are the die-hard that won't change their mind despite any effort that is made to sway their support. IMO.

I agree this probably will not work and in return the Dems will appear to be so weal that they are desparate.
