Ron Paul Tops McCain in Cash on Hand

This is good news for Ron Paul supporters.

Ron Paul Tops McCain in Cash on Hand

ABC News' George Stephanopoulos Reports: Though often regarded as a longshot candidate for president, Republican Ron Paul tells ABC News that he has an impressive $2.4 million in cash on hand after raising an equal amount during the second quarter, putting him ahead of one-time Republican frontrunner John McCain, who reported this week he has only $2 million in the bank.

In an exclusive interview taped Friday and airing Sunday on "This Week," Paul said his campaign is on a better trajectory than McCain's.

"I think some of the candidates are on the down-slope, and we're on the up-slope," said Paul.

Paul's cash on hand puts him in third place in the Republican field in that important metric, although he is well behind leader Rudy Giuliani, who has $18 million in the bank, and Mitt Romney, with $12 million.

Paul, who polls show with support in the low single digits, said his surprisingly strong fundraising is the best measure of his support.

Maybe not such good news, McCain is crapping out quickly. Paulk needs to keep ahead of him to be able to stay in the race.

He ran as a Libdertarian last election; I think he was 4 yrs too early. He may still run as an indie, if all else fails in the primaries. IMO

He seems to appeal to Independents so it might be a good move seeing how crowed the Republican candidate field is.

He tried it in the past, he was not even successful with his stuff. I see him staying with the Repubs for now. The field will start thinning out and pretty soon.

I hate the big media because they don't give good numbers on Dr. Paul. If you look at their polls they only ask something like 300 people in telephone interviews. Wow, that's really accurate. Then when they have the open polls on the internet he ends up with something like 40-50% of the vote. Here's one and another and another. These aren't 'scientific' polls but they seem closer to real numbers than the ones the big media is putting up.

Ron Paul seems to be the big surprise the election and he has more support than the media gives him credit for. I like a lot of his policies.

The media always overlooks the lesser known candidates in favor of the top tier candidates. It's no wonder we end up electing idiots.

He seems like a straight talking person who has a message the nation feels is a bitter pill to swallow.

I think Ron Paul is the best candidate on the Republican side.

Honestly I think he is the best candidate in the field. He is the only true independent in the field that I know of. If you can give me another we should put him as VP. :)

Rupchuk, check out Unity08, it is exactly what they have planned and it could be a really successful run.

Paul rakes up on militrary donbations.

Congressman Ron Paul has defined his Republican presidential candidacy with a staunchly critical stance on the Iraq war, saying during the June 5 debate in New Hampshire, for example, that it was a "mistake to go and a mistake to stay."

Paul has often reiterated his views that US security has been worsened by its military presence in Iraq, and that Bush's pre-emptive war doctrine represented one of his administration's greatest moral failings.

Paul received no money from Marines.

That's odd. Are Marines Democrats?

I know Ron Paul looks good on paper, but if you look at his domestic platform he's really no better than the Shrub. Actually, I take that back: he's more honest than the Shrub on domestic policy. He doesn't just favor deregulation; he wants to eliminate all of it. What does this mean? Wave buh-bye to the minimum wage, the forty hour work week, Social Security, public education, publicly funded science, and everything else that doesn't pertain to the military.

With Paul, I see some of his Libertarian views still shining through which makes him more appealing to me than the rest of the RINO's.
