Hello there everybody ! A quick introduction to me.

(1) I am not even from America. I had an American step father ( Montanan ) - love the States as a place and love some of the people there very much. I in fact hail from New Zealand.

(2) I am passionately interested in politics, sociology, differing cultures, ethics and the human condition in general.

(3) I have an MA in Phil ( Cultural Relativism ) and a BA in Psych - Neither of which I use in my professional life.

(4) I am a spectacularly bed speller.

(5) I am a leftie, left. Tree huggie, those poor criminals, what a horrible childhood they must have had, soft on crime, welfare state leftie left left. Republicans just love me !

(6) I am also a staunch proponent of realpolitic. My first question when studying the government of both macro and micro social groups is " does it work ". It is this and only this that drives me to all opinions in (5) above.

(7) I strongly dislike bigotry and self - group - social righteousness.

(Cool I strongly dislike facile, specious or cliche argument. Sophistry makes me gag.

(9) I am often wrong and will frequently admit I am so.

(10) I like people who's opinions differ from mine ( thats lots of people ). I like the " Good servant " ie, those who may act or think very differently to me, but do it with conviction and self honestly.

(11) I am an angry and bitter and cynical old man who mostly laughs at the absurdity of the world, beacuse if I did not, I would never stop sobbing.

Cool! Everyone is welcome here, no matter where they're from. This board isn't big enough yet, but if anyone gives you grief for posting here and not being from the U.S., I'll give them the what-for.

I got tired of parsing this point by point. Let's just say we're glad to have you here! Smile

Hello Amadeo. Welcome to the site. Cool

I can't say I even know anyone from New Zealand, not that it matters. I'll have to read up on New Zealand . I don't think I've even discussed anything even related to your country. Sounds interesting. Smile
