I noticed the ads on here. I presume this means you're deriving some sort of revenue on them? Or am I guessing wrongly? I ask, because if I can get ad revenue off of my own forum that would help defray the costs of maintaining it. I have subscription services set up for people who want to do so, but beyond that I'm not sure how to do the ad thing. Any suggestions?

Yeah, that's the idea anyway. I don't know how much it's going to make, but if it pays for hosting costs I'll be happy. I just started an account with Google AdSense. You can do it right from Google's home page.

It sounds like a good way to earn some pennies. How would I go about setting up adsense? I tried that for my blog but for some reason I was never able to get through the sign-up phase.

As long as you have FTP access to your webhost, you should be fine. You have to verify that you are the owner of the site.

I have the FTP access alright; I just haven't got a clue how to use it. Well, somewhat, through trial and error and a whole lot of help from the good folk at the Invision help forum. I'll do some inquiring tomorrow.
