Could Be Mitt's VP

Postby CHUQ on Mon Jan 28, 2008 4:22 am

If so and Mitt wins election there could be yet another Bush in Washington

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Jeb Bush has been out of the Florida governor’s office for more than a year, but you’d hardly know it from the high profile he still cuts in state Republican politics.

And no one has attempted to tap into the deep reservoir of goodwill and admiration that still exists for him like Mitt Romney.

"I love him,” said Romney in South Carolina last March. “If his name weren't Bush, he'd be running for president, I'm convinced." He went on to call Bush “quite a guy.

I like Jeb a lot - but the Bush name is no good this time around. Once the dust settles - 2012 or 2016 the name should be back in vogue. Only is Iraq turns out OK.

Charlie Crist though - the present governor - came out for McCain and is very popular here in Florida. McCain (if he gets the nomination) should consider him. Florida is a must win for the GoP and Charlie could significantly help here.

Let say for the sake of argument that Clinton wins election and rules until 2016 and then it is Jeb. My question is when will the voter break the political dynasties?

Good point - in that case I couldn't imagine Jeb running. At that point he would be out of government for 10+ years anyway.

Jeb's hopes would be that a republican wins either this time or next and gives him a cabinet post.

I do think the dynasty issue would hurt Hillary this time around - this will be one of the attacks on her by the surrogates - issue ads. That and I think a liberal 3rd party candidate will emerge if the dems nominate hillary.
