Hi Everybody

Postby EagleClaws12009 on Tue May 13, 2008 10:44 am

Hi everyone. My name is Sarah, im a polysci major, but film is my first love. I work for two production companies, both in which Im an associate producer and one of which I am part owner in. Its a great experience, even though we are very small time. However, we have a television show in the works to appear on local tv channels, so Im really excited. How many people can say they have the connections to do that, eh?

Anyways, I'm a young (24), liberal woman (here's an example why...I don't see how you can be pro life and pro death penalty at the same time, at the end of the day, someone is dying. The bible is silent on the issue of abortion because abortion wasn't even a word back during the times of Christ. 'Vengence is Mine Sayeth the Lord'. To me, that means that God is the only one that gets to pass the final judgement on people....I don't think there is anything more final than death).

Just so everyone knows, I don't think there's anything wrong with being a conservative. I don't really care, but I can stand the idiots that throw around the word liberal as though it were the worst name on the planet. Liberals have bought into this 'bad name' genre and as such, have changed to the word 'progressives'.

Wouldn't it be progressive to stand by the name that you call yourself, which was liberal in the first place?

I don't know. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think all liberals hate the country and the government (I certainly don't), and I don't think all conservatives are racists, intolerable, masoganistic bigots. Just some of us are those things, and not all, and I really wish people would remember that.

Anyways, HELLO OUT THERE IN FORUM LAND!

Interesting take on the use of the words liberal and progressive. David Sirota wrote a few years ago about what he thinks separates progressives and liberals, and his argument made a lot of sense to me. He thinks, as does apparently Paul Krugman, that while liberals believe in certain ideals and using government to help make them reality, progressives take it a step further -- using government to make Big Business behave itself. Sirota also argues that while most progressives are also liberal, it doesn't necessarily follow that most liberals are progressive. Read the link contents, he explains it better than I.

Anyway, welcome aboard!

Another liberal? I'm starting to think tearing down that wall was not the defeat of communism but the opening of the flood gates.
"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb deciding what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote."

"A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people." -Declaration of Independence

"Taking my gun away because I might shoot someone is like cutting my tongue out because I might yell `Fire!' in a crowded theater." - Peter Venetoklis
