Seems the govt wants the media to tone down their reporting.

Minister of Information and Communication, Mr. John Odey, has cautioned media outfits in the country to avoid reports that would infringe on the stability and security of the nation.

Addressing a public forum organised by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) in Calabar on the theme: "Broadcasting and Sustainable Democracy: The South-south Experience," Odey appealed to media organisations to avoid undue sensationalism especially on issues that could threaten law and order and the corporate existence of the nation.

The minister said that while he totally believed in the rights of the media to freely disseminate information as enunciated in the constitution, they should be cautious of their responsibility to the stability and security of the nation.

Sounds like censorship is alive and well in Nigeria.

But wait! I thought the new govt was painted as this new wave of democracy. Does that mean we were lied to? (he said with a chuckle)
