Muslims View Of The US

Muslims View Of The US

Postby CHUQ on Wed Aug 29, 2007 5:21 am

I could see why they might think this stuff, but is iut true?

An in-depth poll of four major Muslim countries has ascertained that in each of them large majorities believe that undermining Islam is a key goal of U.S. foreign policy. The poll surveys were conducted in Egypt, Morocco, Pakistan, and Indonesia from Dec. 2006 to Feb. 2007 by WorldPublicOpinion.org, with support from the START Consortium at the University of Maryland.

As reported by Pakistan's Daily Times (April 24), those polled were not ambiguous about perceived U.S. goals:

Large majorities (an average of 79 percent) across all four countries believe the United States seeks to "weaken and divide the Islamic world," ranging from 73 percent in Indonesia and Pakistan to 92 percent in Egypt. Equally large numbers perceive that the U.S. is trying to maintain "control over the oil resources of the Middle East" (average 79 percent).

That should come as no surprise given the countries where the poll was taken. With the exception of Egypt's and Pakistan's government. the population of all the countries polled aren't exactly friendly towards the U.S anyway.

Just as in this country, reporting has a lot to do with it. I am sure that whenever there is a story about the abuse of a Muslim in the US it is the top story of the day. Antonio Gramsci, back in the early 20th century said that the media would become the new hegemony. Appears he was a pretty sharp indidual.

Aren’t exactly friendly? Its not like we westerner’s have been friendly with them so what do we expect in return? Comforting hugs and kisses? Come on America, off the pedestal now and into the real world…we have gone into Afghanistan and Iraq and started killing their brothers and sisters, we label them primitive, we disrespect their religious views and scream ‘terrorist’ when we see one of them in the street and then blame them for hating us? WAKE UP AMERICA…we violate their rights of existence and sovereignty—we attacked Pakistan when they clearly warned about the dangers of foreign troops entering their land… we went into Afghanistan without any proof that the so-called terrorist’s were truly behind the attacks as without the blackbox there was no way of being sure what actually went on in those planes on that unfortunate day, we went into Iraq, against UN orders and looking for WMDs that the UN said did not exist and brought nothing but anarchy into the lives or Iraqis and brave men and women who go their to fight a war that has no reason…and yet they hate us! (sarcasm)
Muslims view of the U.S is just a reflection on our veiws of them...both being misguided and stereotyped by the media everywhere

…and our media is no friend to the policies of other countries, the beliefs of Islam…heck lets take one-sided arguments a step further…
Bush is no friend to their policies, rights and beliefs of people in other parts of the world…and yet we belieing that we deserve respect and admiration on the international stage :/

Just like when a Muslim does something wrong or says something that Westerner’s will not like, it is the top story of the day in the U.S…gotcha journalism is universal so before attacking it in other counteries we should consider the irony of the situation and think “hold on, we are doing the same thing here too”…yep ur right about the power of the media though, its kind of scary isn’t it! and yes, just as in this country, the media has a lot to do with all of this hatred. The most saddening thing of all is that most people around the whole believe what that see/hear/read in the media wihtout critically analysing it.
