Cuba Upgrades Weapons

Postby CHUQ on Tue Aug 28, 2007 4:37 am

looks like the new Cold War is about to swingf into full blown competition. Again we herre are so damn intelligent.

CUBA has been upgrading its military arsenal since President Fidel Castro fell ill 13 months ago, to defend itself against a possible US invasion, senior officers said today.

"In the irregular combat we would face in Cuba in case of an invasion, the engineering, infantry and artillery systems we produce and repair here are of vital importance, because they're designed for the aggressor's direct assault," said Lieutenant-Colonel Pascual Machado, chief coordinator of Cuba's Military Industrial Firm (EMI).

EMI director Colonel Arturo Torres told the Trabajadores newspaper the facilities he runs "have increased their production level since 1998 more than fourfold".

I doubt we have any intention of invading Cuba. They are probably shipping arms to another country.

If you think about it, Cubans have reason to think they will be invaded, a Pres with a less aggresive policy tried it and failed and now the US Mr. Invade and Conquer as a pres. Maybe they have reason to fear an invasion.

They may have cause to worry but I don't see us invading their island. Relations between Cuba is more of a cat and mouse game than outright hostilities.

They may be thinking that they and Venezuela would be targets if Bush has to pull out of Iraq. I mean the man needs an enemy to keep his fear card in the trump position.

I think a lot of people are starting to realize Cuba can be a good trading partner. It's not as if we don't do business with other dictators who violate human rights. Hell, we still import oil from Chavez and he is a lot more hostile towards the US than Cuba is.

SH*T! Dropping sanctions and such would do more to stop Castro than what they do now. But the Repubs have a huge voter base in Fla and that is a lot of money coming into the RNC.

The Republicans are the root of most of our current failed policies. It's time to reconsider our policy towards Cuba. IMO.
