Al Qaeda In Iraq Defeated

Postby CHUQ on Tue Oct 16, 2007 3:33 am

Now here is a piece. If true, why are we still ther? Bush has said it was a fight against AQ.

American commanders in Iraq believe they have damaged al-Qa'eda enough to claim victory over the terrorist organisation at work in the country.

Mission accomplished, Take 1: Bush in 2003

They were reported to have made the case that a series of reversals have fatally wounded the network, which has been behind most of the major attacks against US forces and Iraqi civilians since the 2003 invasion.

Nearly a year of intensified US military activity has seen a decline in suicide bombings, and the killing and capture of al-Qa'eda leaders as well as more than 1,000 footsoldiers.

I think they are overstating their victory. It's not AQ that's the problem. It's the damn government and their failure to unite the country. Victory comes in 2008 for us.

But for years we have been told that AQ was the enemy and if we did not defeat them there they would be here. If they are now defeated, cannot troops come home?

Good point CHUQ.

Declaring victory amouts to shooting themselves in the foot to me.

I think it is to keep the Dems off balance and in confusion.

Sounds more like AQ is regrouping. I seriously doubt they are defeated yet.

I agree, it is just a way to keep the Dems from accomplishing anything on Iraq.
