Biofuels--Crime Against Humanity

Postby CHUQ on Sat Oct 27, 2007 4:51 am

Just had to post this to get some feedback. Thoughts?

A United Nations expert has condemned the growing use of crops to produce biofuels as a replacement for petrol as a crime against humanity.

The UN special rapporteur on the right to food, Jean Ziegler, said he feared biofuels would bring more hunger.

The growth in the production of biofuels has helped to push the price of some crops to record levels.

Mr Ziegler's remarks, made at the UN headquarters in New York, are clearly designed to grab attention.

Well, I don't know if I would go as far as saying it is a crime against humanity, but I do feel that they are putting too much faith into how much this can help solve the energy crisis.

I can understand why they would say that, it the world's hungry consume a lot of produce that would be effected by the massive production of bio-fuels.

It seems to be red tape holding up feeding the poor of the world as much as diverting food. Some countries don't want the food even when they are given it for free. Corn isn't cost effective, it's just good politics. The whole concept of bio-fuels making a big impact is a hoax.

I just wish the American people would pull their heads out of their butts and wake up to the facts. Bio-fuels are not the answers. Do I want too much?

I hadn't really thought about it from that angle before. I always thought oil bad, biofuel good.

Yeah--that really blew my mind when I first was reading it and it actually made sense afterwards. I love it when a fact hits home so much that it instantly changes my opinion. I had TRULY never looked at it from that angle in even the slightest.

Wow...

Yes, we DO need to find other ways than that, but where are they going to come from? What the hell are we going to do?

I know the article also says this:

technological advances would enable the use of agricultural waste, such as corn cobs and banana leaves, rather than crops themselves to produce fuel.

But how far off is that? How close are we to doing that?

Have you noticed the push for new nuke plants in the US? The selling point is that it is emission free. No one is asking anything about the by-product. Nukes and bio-fuels are just the way for the balance of profit to remain where it is

As soon as they figure out how to privatize the sun we'll start seeing a serious push for solar technology.

Very true, and if cocaine gave you an erection instead of taking it away, it would be sold by Merck or some other pharm co. It is always about profit.
