Sound familiar? That will be the second woman elected in SA.

BUENOS AIRES -- First Lady Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner appeared to win a sweeping victory Sunday to become Argentina's first elected female president, according to exit polls and early official results.

Fernandez, 54, a longtime federal senator and wife of President Nestor Kirchner, was leading her closest rival, former congresswoman Elisa Carrio, by about 20 points, exit polls indicated.

That margin, if confirmed by final official results, would be sufficient to avoid a runoff election next month and allow the center-left Fernandez to take office Dec. 10 for a four-year term.

She is facing some probs.

- She cruised to presidential victory on the successful economic policies of her husband, President Nestor Kirchner, who delivered four years of brisk growth in the aftermath of a national financial and political breakdown.

But First Lady Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, whose election was confirmed by near-final results Monday, faces serious challenges as she prepares to take office for a four-year term Dec. 10 as Argentina's first elected female chief of state.

"The president-elect won't have a honeymoon," Fernando Gonzalez wrote in the daily Clarin. "It is well known that Argentina is cruel with success."

THe new Pres is facing some daunting probs.....will she succeed?

It's been a bumpy ride so far for Argentina's new president, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner. And barely more than a week has passed since she was inaugurated. Hailed as Argentina's new Evita, Fernandez had been in office for three days when her first crisis broke. It originated in faraway Miami, where Assistant U.S. District Attorney Thomas Mulvihill said in court that the FBI had recorded alleged Venezuelan agents saying that $800,000 confiscated by Argentine customs authorities in Buenos Aires four months ago was actually an illegal campaign contribution from Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to Fernandez' electoral campaign.

It is a particularly sensitive issue for Fernandez, who ran on her record as a fiery anti-corruption crusader while she was in Argentina's Congress. It also complicates her attempts to mediate between the U.S. and its bete noir, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

Oh well, not much we can do about it. If we weren't policing the world we would even be aware of it.

She can use that money to finance her invasion of the Falkland Islands. I understand she stated in her inauguration speech that she would be heading over there shortly.
