Not really. His popularity is sinking like a fat woman in quicsand.

PARIS (Reuters) - President Nicolas Sarkozy's popularity has fallen sharply for a second successive month, a survey released on Tuesday showed, with French voters apparently unhappy about his economic policies and flamboyant lifestyle.

The BVA-Orange-Express opinion poll for January said only 45 percent of those questioned had a positive opinion of Sarkozy, down 6 points from the December poll, while 48 percent had a negative opinion.

Could be because of his embracing of the Bush program, as well as his social policies.

Whatever it was his shining star seems to be fading fast. Suggesting that the French should actually work for a living hasn't made him many friends.

If his popularity continues to slide, he may be forced to call a new election.

Wow. They can do that in France? I knew he was taking some heat for policy changes but from what I know of the changes, they haven't been in place long enough to know what long term impact they will have.

France has a coalition of parties and if Sarkozy does not have the backing of these parties, they can force him to call for an election. kinda wish we could do that in this country.
