Rudy Connects With "Moral" Issues Voters

Postby CHUQ on Wed Oct 17, 2007 4:41 am

He is trying to be the moral issues candidate.

WASHINGTON -- Republican presidential front-runner Rudy Giuliani is finding that tough foreign-policy stands are helping him connect with social and religious conservatives, constituencies where the former New York City mayor's support has been seen as weakest

Those conservatives, a bedrock of the party's base in recent elections, are unhappy with Mr. Giuliani's positions in support of abortion and gay rights, as well as his two divorces. But Mr. Giuliani's positioning himself as a tough leader in the fight against Islamist extremism and threats from Iran, and his staunch support for Israel, have kept many social conservatives in his corner despite their misgivings about his stands on domestic issues.

He is a typical politician--massaging the gentials of anyone that will bring him support. They all do it!

Well, a moral confrence by Republicans will have a small turnout given their track record. I'd be surprised to see many of them allowed access to the event.

Mitt edgesw out Huckabee in the straw poll by the christian right.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 20 — After an earnest appeal for acceptance from Rudolph W. Giuliani, Christian conservatives ended their two-day summit here Saturday still divided about which of the Republican presidential candidates to marshal their collective might behind.

Mitt Romney edged out Mike Huckabee in the straw poll at the Values Voter Summit. But questions were raised about the way the voting was conducted — votes were permitted to be cast online as far back as August — and even top leaders said there did not appear to be any consensus.

That didn't surprise me much. Romney seemed to be the winner of the poll but he is also dumping a lot of personal money into his war chest that tells me he isn't really gathering a great base of support. His personal funds might be what is keeping him in the game.

That is a very good possibility. I am trying to figure out why a mormon edged out a baptist preacher.
