A conflict waiting to happen. We did not settle the crap before and now here it comes with mouth open heading for the ass of the US.

BELGRADE (Reuters) - Serbia disregarded European Union calls for less provocative Serb rhetoric on Kosovo at the weekend and warned that the United States was leading the West down a path of force to make the province independent.

As foreign ministers meeting in Portugal admitted differences on Kosovo among the EU's 27 member states, Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica attacked Washington's "threat" of illegal recognition of the breakaway territory as an independent state.

Serbia, backed by Russia, is on a collision course with the West over Kosovo and hopes to persuade hesitant EU member states to resist big power pressure for recognition of independence as the only viable solution to deadlocked talks over its future.

It is only a matter of time. The players are positioning themselves.

MOSCOW. (RIA Novosti political commentator Yelena Shesternina) - In a recent onslaught against the Kosovo Albanians, the Serbian authorities have gone over from strong albeit diplomatic statements to threats.

If Kosovo declares independence unilaterally, Belgrade will take extreme measures - seal the borders, impose a trade embargo and return its troops to the province to restore Serbia's territorial integrity.

Dusan Prorokovic, Serbia's state secretary for Kosovo, said this in an interview with the Serbian media, which was promptly re-printed by The New York Times. If he had made this statement at a regular session of the Serbian cabinet, it could have been passed for routine domestic debates, but now it may cause a major row not only between Belgrade and Pristina, but also between Russia and the West.

At least the U.N. is on board in this dispute.

Serbian prez says that a free Kosovo would destabilize the world, he sounds a lot like Bush.

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Serbia warned the United Nations on Thursday of "unforeseeable consequences" that could destabilize the world if the breakaway province of Kosovo declares independence unilaterally later this year.

Serbian President Boris Tadic urged the U.N. General Assembly to avoid creating what he said would be a dangerous legal precedent hours before foreign ministers of the United States, Russia, Britain, France, Germany and Italy met at U.N. headquarters on the future of Kosovo.

The possibility of war returning to Serbia is getting better and better.

And I wonder what this will mean if I decide to go visit my wife in December-January. I'm thinking about going to visit her sister too, she lives in Kosovo.

I don't think the Serbs have the ability to hold onto Kosovo. The KLA will probably resurface and give them another guerilla war they can't handle. And if they go genocide the rest of the world will probably step in.

Russia is now in the mix. A return of the Cold War.

My interest was in the Serbian province of Kosovo.

Almost nine years ago, Nato aircrews - including some from Britain - bombed this city to stop massacres of Kosovo Albanians.

Since then, Kosovo has been run by the United Nations. But now both the US and the Kosovans want full independence - something Serbia says it will never accept.

Then in September, Russia stepped in. It was drawing a "red line", it said, on Kosovo. It, too, would not tolerate independence

First off Nef, welcome to the forum...
