No problem. You think it can be considered good for an 18-year-old? lol

trivium

I ask a lot of questions just to get an understanding of it is all.

I don't know enough about it yet to say if it is a workable plan, but I'm coming up to speed. Laughing

It's a good plan to you, and that's what matters. IMO. I'll let you know how good I think it is as we discuss it in greater detail.

It looks like a rough draft of a plan. I don't believe we should scrap our current system in favor of this plan in the matter of a few posts without undertanding it in a little more detail.

18 huh? Old enough to fight in a war but not old enough to buy a beer.Great system isn't it?

I think it's great that you took the time to draw it up. Wink

Thnx, Tumbleweed. I personally like the idea(and yes, it is a roughdraft), but I don't personally believe we could ever just scrap any government to replace it. Revolutions usually take place before anything like that can come to pass.

Personally, I don't drink beer, and hope to never become part of that(experiences among family causes this idea). So, I kind of like not having te ability to buy beer for a few more years, hahaha. I would love to help out our military if I can, though. Just in a REAL war, not the shitty one we are living in right now!

The idea itself is right to matter, and is what should matter, but my asking is partly because I would like to expand on it or change any part of it that people can show me is weak. But also because I would like to know if, for a first idea, it is a good one...

Trivium,

If all 18 year olds were as concerned about our system as you are...I bet we wouldn't be in half the situations we find ourselves in today. No matter whether anyone tells you your ideas are good or bad--at least you're putting forth the effort to come up with them. That's a great thing, IMO.

I felt the same way. I joined and I found out the military isn't so great after all. The politics have filtered down from the civilian side of the government. Too much sensitivity training, paperwork, and government hand-holding for my tastes. But if you like socialism you'll love the military. It seems the only people who stay in are those who like to be authoritarian.

And I don't understand why everyone is bashing the electoral college. I think it is a good idea. A benefit of the electoral college is that it helps keep states like California and New York from completely dominating national politics. It becomes an urban vs rural battle then. Places with high density populations become the best places to campaign, period. No one would try to appeal to rural America. Why? Why go to a state that has 250,000 voters when you could go to a state that has 9 million? Whatever the majority wants then becomes will for the nation. That sounds good until you realize that mistreating 49% of the population because 51% voted for it is not right. There should be a fine balance between majority rule and minority rights. And to be fair this is one of the rare times that the popular vote didn't match up with the electoral college. No one bitches to change it unless they win the popular vote but lose the electoral college. Was anyone complaining after the election in '96?

The electoral college allowed a total idiot to run our country. I can't find a single thing I like about that.

That's to say that Al Gore isn't an idiot. Razz I seriously doubt he would have done better.

I think Gore isn't the smartest of guys either...but he was the better of two evils at that point...

And I'd rather stay away from socialism if I can.

As for the electoral college part...

The electoral college has become useless when it comes to valid representation. The truth is that when there is a 40% rep and 60% dem population in a state and the dems win, the reps just lost their voice...and that is unfair...

trivium--I found you political proposal interesting and I am still digesting it. I appreciate original thought anytime I offer a point I am not critising just point out where your proposal could be attacked. you have done a good job of defending your conclusions. I will offer some more stuff as soon as I can get a little sleep. Keep up the good work.
