I don't advocate attacking Iran. It's the NeoCons doing that. Iran isn't a threat to the U.S. as far as an attack from them goes. It other countries problem as far as I'm concerned.

Ahmadinejad is a physo idiot as far as I'm concerned. I have 0 respect for him so I disregard any of his comments as BS. He is Iran problem anyway. He isn't capable of effectivly running a country. All he is is a mouthpiece for the hardline fundamemtalist who rule Iran.

I have more names for him but he doesn't deserve the time it takes to type them. Laughing

we here do not think that the "war" is a good idea either. But the admin and the media has done an excellent job of demonizing the man.

I agree that it would be a diasterous endeavor, but that never stopped Bush and the Boyz, they think of reason not consequences, unfortunately.

First of all, thanks for the welcome!

You know, we here in the UK (I'm speaking for the English contingent not the Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish) laugh at the Americans for being so over dramatic.
Don't you think that you are just a teeny bit over exaggerating about Mr Ahmadinejad and Iran in general?
Americans have held a massive 'grudge' (if grudge is the correct word in this subject) against Iran ever since they threw out the American sponsored Shah and started their own Islamic revolution. They have lived in the shadow of war ever since, and I commend them for standing up for their own rights.
During the Iran/Iraq war, America provided Saddam with all the weaponry he needed to bombard Iran. A war which we all know ended in failure for Iraq. They even supplied him with chemical & biological weapons which he used to great effect.
These days, America - without an iota of proof - are accusing Iran for doing the same against your troops inside Iraq. It is easy to blame the 'enemy' for your own mistakes.
One piece of proof, if you like, to support my argument is Shia muslims do not support Sunni muslims - they hate each other. It is the Sunni militia who are fighting American (and British) troops inside Iraq. Iran is predominently a Shia muslim state. The two religions simply do not mix!!!!!
Going back to Mr Ahmadinejad, I don't like the guy personally but he is no more a terrorist than your very own president (and past presidents) is/were.
The reaction to his visit to New York just summed up exactly what I am talking about.
A major, major insult.

I watched his Q & A speech live on Fox News last night. I watched Fox News as opposed to my normal British Sky News or BBC because I wanted to see just how the Americans reacted.
I thought he handled the questions rather well, and was never nervous for a moment. There was a couple of answers which on a personal note I completely disagreed with him on, but apart from that, the rest were as good as he could give. And, considering he was blatantly insulted by the 'host' before he even got going!!!!!

What I didn't expect was the barrage of insults afterwards by that creep John Bolton. He gives me the creeps with his porn star moustache. He seriously needs to get a life!

I know more about the Iranian people and their culture than most. I should do, I have been married to an Iranian girl for 7 years and we have a wonderful daughter together.
I have travelled to Iran no fewer than 5 times (the most recent being last month), so I have seen a wealth of things. And I can honestly say, that apart from the crazy laws (some of which would drive me crazy being a Westerner) it is not a bad country at all. Quite the opposite really! I have met and spoken with mullah's (hell, I had to swear allegiance to Allah in front of one during my wedding celebrations!!!!!)
I really cannot for the life of me understand why America hates them so much. Whatever Iran does or says, will never change America's mind. This is sad, very sad.

The fact remains that Iran is a state sponsor of terrorism and you can spin it any way you like but at the end of the the day they remain the greatest threat to stability in the ME.

We don't have the troops to attack Iran. With our troops next door in Iraq fighting bush's war, it would be a huge mistake to attack Iran. I would expect if there is anyone pushing the theory it is the Israel lobby.

The fiasco at Columbia has only strengthened Ahmadinejad in his country at a time when he was losing support as President. He is more delusional than our President.

Miklos, the humor you speak of, is just US politics, you see we Americans, for sonme unknown reason need to have an antagonist and then once we have one we need these purile slogans that justifies our new found belief.

Hi Jim! If there is to be an attack it will be an air assault to do as much damage as possible and trying to cripple their possible response as well as any nuke sites we think they have.

LONDON - The chief U.S. missile defense negotiator defended plans to place anti-missile sites in Eastern Europe, saying Wednesday that the system could prevent a war with Iran by building an effective deterrent.

"Our intent is to address emerging threats in the Middle East," U.S. Assistant Secretary of State John Rood said in an interview with The Associated Press during a visit to London to attend a conference on defense trade. "Countries like Iran are developing long-range missile systems. And we're concerned not only about the emerging capability but of the hostile intent from countries in the region."

The only thing that will prevent a war is if the Republicans are removed from power or Israel doesn't attack Iran.

CH, you are probably right but I would think Iran would be quick to launch Iranian sympathizers who are in this country into action. Would attacking Iran actually make our country safer? Perhaps we can delay their nuke program but wouldn't an attack further antogonize Muslims worldwide and make our postion in Iraq nearly impossible.

I no doubt, if we attacked Iran it would make our life miserable, but that never seem to be a concern for this admin. IMO, it would be one of history's most dumb mistakes.

True that--but here is something to think about. Some say that we are stretched too thin for another war, that is true, IMo, but recent actions in Congress smell like the setting the stage for action against Iran. Few remember that in 1998 the Congress passed a resolution called Iraq Resolution and it set the stage for the invasion 5 yrs later. So I guess I am saying this action in Congress is just the prelude to whatever action they take.

They are building the case.

Members of the US secretariat in the United Nations were asked earlier this month to begin "searching for things that Iran has done wrong", The Sunday Telegraph has learnt.

Some US diplomats believe the exercise — reminiscent of attempts by vice-president Dick Cheney and the former defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld to build the case against Saddam Hussein before the Iraq war — will boost calls for military action by neo-conservatives inside and outside the administration.

One diplomat revealed the plans for an Iran dossier to Steven Clemons, a fellow with the New America Foundation, a Washington think-tank, who has previously revealed attempts by Mr Cheney's allies to pressurise President George W Bush into war.
